Students from Griffithstown Primary School in Pontypool, Torfaen were the first students to join the School Radio Torfaen project.
Andrea Cleere, Teaching Assistant at Griffithstown Primary, bought two groups of students from the schools Intervention programme to the School Radio Torfaen studio.
The students were firstly introduced to the studio environment, and sessions were run over a six week period where the students were able to introduce songs live on the radio and discuss topics such as their favourite artist, film soundtrack and more.
Speaking to South Wales Argus and Free Press Series in June 2019, Andrea Cleere said: “It went really well. The children were able to choose their favourite song and introduce it live on air.
“They found it really exciting and were buzzing when they came back in to school.
“In future week we will be using it to help develop their literacy skills. They will research a topic and then speak about it on the air.
“This can really help them with their confidence as well.
“It is a lovely experience for the children and we are really excited about it.
